Yours in Health
Dr Andrew Norwood

Since my dad and I have been coming the Chiro Healthworks we have had a lot of changes in our health.

Three years ago my dad slipped a disc in his lower back, which left him with a partly paralysed right leg because he crushed his sciatic nerve.  Although his leg has improved he still had to take panadol forte (a very strong painkiller) from 2 to 6 times a day, but since our treatment at the Chiro Healthworks at Christmas he has not had to take the painkillers to go to work or do Karate.

Because of this our whole perception of inner health has changed and made us try a lot harder with our neck exercises and our cheese wedge thing! Dr Andrew Norwood has also kept to his word when he said he would help with any other injuries.

I tore the ligaments in my shoulder in a mountain bike accident and had to go to Emergency.  They sent me away after X-rays and said they would phone for me to go and see a physiotherapist.  Dr Andrew has worked on my shoulder for weeks and it is so much better – and the hospital has still not even rung me back (after 9 weeks).

In conclusion, if we look after our spines our spines will look after us.

My thoughts – A few of them.

With the end of the year 2004 in sight I came to realise that it is over four years since my first meeting with Doctor Andrew Norwood.

As I have stated many times before it was the turning point in my life.  Pain ridden and finding my mobility very restricted  - all medication having failed to give me relief – the door seemed to be closed and I was very depressed!!

However from the time of our introduction and under his guidance, support and continuous “spinal care” life for me has changed completely.  Travel which I thrive on has once again become a joy – friends do not hesitate to include me in their ventures, my little world has opened up again.  It is amazing.

On reflection Doctor Andrew and his dedication to “spinal care” has done this for me and has proved to be my saving grace and will - I pray continue to be so – not only for me but for present and future patients of all generations who with all our problems have entered the “Chiro Healthworks” with cherished and optimistic hopes of a happier HEALTHIER future.

I am living proof that it can happen!

Dec 2006

I suffered from chronic lower back pain which in turn affected severe nerve pain in my bladder, leaving me at times unable to walk or indeed carry anything. Many daily activities restricted.

This pain resulted in me seeing several medical practitioners and undergoing surgery which I felt I did not require, but was advised to do so. A hysterectomy for example which was not required, several bladder interventions which made me pain free for a while. I had two sympathectomies and many, many facet joint injections, all which gave me only short periods of pain relief.

In my lowest periods I often felt like life was not worth living. Having come to feeling I had nowhere else to go, I saw an advert for the Chiro Healthworks in the local paper, and decided to make an appointment, as my daily life was severely impaired.

I was impressed by the professionalism of the staff and the opportunity to take part in the treatment programme. This gave me some hope for relief of some of my problems and was pleased with the simplicity of the treatment on offer.

Since I began I have had longer periods of pain reduced episodes which has made my life and my family’s lives more productive. As I am in the early stages of my treatment I am sure this will progress and will continue with this until advised of otherwise.

My husband now also attends the clinic to ease his aches and pains in his neck. I have also recommended a friend who has had problems with her neck over many years.

I have made great progress since commencing my treatment at the clinic and have faith that this will improve further, with time.

It is good to hear other patients discussing their improvements and the positive outlook of the staff whose enthusiasm they project, to all who enter the clinic.

When I came to see Dr Norwood at the end of April 2005 I had been suffering from a set of symptoms know I the medical profession as Fibro-myalgia. The symptoms are diffuse pain in the muscles around the back, shoulders, neck and arms, as well as a number of “Tender points” which were particularly painful when lying down, and which interfered greatly with my sleep patterns. I had also had an MRI which showed slipped discs and subluxation at the top of my spine and my shoulders and neck muscles were very tense and hard. The “treatment” offered was 10 – 20Mg’s of anti-something and Ibuprofen should the pain s become stronger. In other words I would have to live with this condition and have done so for at least 10 years.

I am always on the look out for alternatives, so when I heard about the Chiro Healthworks in the local paper I decided to give it a try.

Dr Norwood pointed out further Subluxation in the middle of my Thoracic Back and a general mis-alignment. The Right side is higher than the left at the base of the spine. There were signs of degeneration both in the thoracic and in the cervical area.

Since having my spine adjusted regularly, I have noticed that my posture has improved, (the use of the wedge was crucial) the tension in my back has almost gone and my asthma has improved. The neck area remains stiff and painful on movement, but I am only half way through the course!

What impressed me most about Dr Norwood was his knowledge about health matters generally I would recommend him to anyone in my age group who has symptoms of degeneration and who wants to stay “young” and supple, and to younger people who have been told they have spinal problems but can’t be helped by conventional medicine.

I’ve had back trouble for a number of years.

I went to my doctors a number of times and was given pain killers and told that I had Sciatica and it would go away in time. An emergency doctor was called out a couple of times because of the pain in my lower back he gave me Cortisone Injections.

I was suffering with pain in my groin, pins and needles in my foot, sometimes lost control of my right leg. I could not walk very far.

My Doctor must have got fed up with me and arranged an MRI Scan for me which took a few weeks to come through (my back had not been looked at or examined in all this time)

While waiting for the results of the MRI I went in to Woden Plaza and who should I bump in to but Dr Norwood– Thank Goodness !

I had my spinal health check with Dr Norwood but delayed my results with him as I wanted the MRI results first I am so glad I did as the MRI only scanned my lower back. I was told by my Dr that the disc at the base of my spine was worn, he explained how the disc worked and that if I was in great pain I could have an injection, the last result an operation.

SUBLUXATION a word I had never heard of until I meet Dr Norwood. I had 6 Subluxations 2 on my neck, 1 mid back, 3 base of spine (phase 2-3)

I felt shocked and upset upon hearing the results. So here I am 5 months later on. No pain killers, No pain in my groin, No pins and needles and I can walk ok – Durras to Depot beach and back about 3 hours,

I did not know about the problem in my neck and mid back until seeing Dr Norwood.

I could hardly turn my head left or right and now I can almost spin my head around. Also people have laughed at me when I say my eye sight has improved so I am making an appointment for an eye test.

I had to see my Dr and my back was mentioned and he requested a letter from Dr Norwood for my records.

5 weeks ago I went to see my Dr and was told my MRI scan would be coming shortly and was told after seeing Dr Norwood letter that there was nothing wrong with my spine the problem was the disc and wear and tear of old age.

No one knows when subluxation is going to happen so please tell friends and family about the spinal health check they can have. I know I still have a long was to go with my adjustments and the base of my spine will not be 100% but I firmly believe that I am on the right road.
One last thing when I came here for my adjustments I feel as though I am coming in to a family atmosphere Mel and Cate are just great as for Dr Norwood, what can I say.

One big thank you for helping me and listening

I put all my faith in you.

Thank you

Sue.
